Last weekend I was at the Hamburg Harley Days. This is the biggest event related to Harley-Davidson in Germany and it takes place once a year since 2003. I fell for Harleys when I was about fifteen and I still wish that I will own and ride one myself one sweet day.
I experienced some trouble there with the long shutter lag of my camera; something that seems to be common with digital cameras, as Distelfliege just mentioned. When I press the button, it takes about one second until the photo is taken – no matter the shutter speed. Pure nuisance when there are bunches of Harleys passing by.

It was the first time I was taking pictures at an event, so it was a whole new experience with a lot of stuff to do differently. I welcomed the opportunitiy, though, to take pictures of something else than flowers. I am getting bored myself lately by all my flower pictures. So, why talk much – here we go (right after the translation):

Letztes Wochenende war ich auf den Hamburg Harley Days. Die finden jährlich statt und sind seit 2003 die größte deutsche Harley-Davidson-Veranstaltung. Ich verfiel den Harleys mit etwa 15 Jahren und träume immer noch davon, eines schönen Tages selbst eine zu besitzen und zu fahren.
Ein wenig Kummer bereitete mir der verzögerte Auslöser meiner Kamera, etwas, das bei Digitalkameras häufig ein Problem zu sein scheint. Wenn ich den Auslöser betätige, dauert es rund eine Sekunde, bis das Bild aufgenommen wird, und das ist unabhängig von der Verschlusszeit. Ein echtes Ärgernis, wenn Scharen von Harleys an einem vorbeirauschen.

Es war das erste Mal, dass ich Fotos bei einer Veranstaltung gemacht habe, und deshalb eine ganz neue Erfahrung mit etlichen Dingen, die ich anders machen musste. Ich schätzte jedoch die Gelegenheit, mal etwas anderes als Blumen zu fotografieren. Meine Blumenfotos beginnen mich in letzter Zeit selbst zu langweilen.

I think this one is so lovely. The afternoon sun was great for taking pictures, but in the bright light I could hardly see anything on my display. So, pictures like this were rather lucky hits. I’m tearing my hair, though, about the cut wheel of her bike.

Dieses Bild finde ich so süß. Die Nachmittagssonne war großartig zum Fotos machen, aber in dem hellen Licht konnte ich auf dem Display fast nichts erkennen. Daher waren Bilder wie dieses eher glückliche Zufälle. Ich ärgere mich aber immer noch über das angeschnittene Vorderrad bei ihr.

Was habe ich über das verzögerte Auslösen gesagt? Dieser Kerl hat das da die ganze Zeit gemacht, und noch besser als auf dem Bild….

Er kam mehrere Male vorbei, aber das erste ist das einzige akzeptable Bild, das ich von ihm machen konnte.

They loved to do that. And the audience cheered! It was great to watch the following bikes disappear in the clouds.

Das da haben sie gerne gemacht. Unter dem Jubeln des Publikums! Es war ein toller Anblick, wenn die nachfolgenden Bikes in den Wolken verschwanden.
